Homosexuality, The Sin   (print view)

by Celesta Thiessen

During the life of Eternal Links, we have had many e-mails about our article, "Sin or Sexual Preference", most of them vehemently negative.

God doesn't arbitrarily call certain activities sins. Only things that are harmful for us and for others. Homosexuality is a sin. So are lying, gossiping, fits of rage, drunkenness and greed, as well as what people consider ๋the more serious sins'(1 Corinthians 6:9&10, Galatians 5:19- 21). To God, sin is black and white. Any sin separates us from him. I do not judge the homosexual. I'm no better, when in my sinful state. Everyone has sinned! (Romans 3:23) But when we become Christians, God cleanses us from all our sins.

God loves each of us so deeply. He knows you. He knows everything about you. He wants the very best for you. And he is calling out to you right now. God wants all of us to come to him, to know him. And we can. Are you a Christian?

Some research suggests that homosexuality may be genetic in cause. It can also be as a result of sexual abuse or the absence of an affirming male role model before puberty. So, perhaps the tendency toward homosexuality may be partially hereditary, but so are the are susceptibility to alcoholism, predisposition to be abusive and even the risk of high blood pressure or heart attacks. We are human beings. We are more than the sum total of our genetic codes! What about those genetically inclined to develop certain physiological problems? Do people prone to high blood pressure or heart attacks just lay down and die? No! They fight their own genes with special diets, an active life style and medicine. Alcoholics can change through AA and treatment centers. Many people who know there is alcoholism in their family will never touch their first drink. People who have a homosexual tendency need not become actively homosexual simply because it may be partially genetic.

Once a person becomes a Christian, they are changed. The old is gone, all has been made new! (2 Corinthians 5:17) But there is often still a struggle. Many people feel "I can't stop sinning!".

But you can. Prayer is a key ingredient to change. And with God, nothing is impossible. All things are possible with God (Luke 18:27).
